I enjoyed a spectacularly misspent youth as a rock n roll hooligan; the type of person you would dread to think your daughter might bring home, or worse still, catch sneaking out of your back door the next morning. If you did, I had probably been through your drinks cabinet, as well as your daughter, and had your best bottle of whiskey hidden in my jacket when I jumped over the gate. I played in bands for many years; some quite successful and others not so. I was brought up in Yorkshire, lived in London, Stockholm and Sydney, where I lecture in music business and entertainment management at The Australian Institute of Music. Between playing music for a living and teaching about doing it for a living, I worked in the music industry at the highest level, with a lot of well known artists; some of whom have inadvertently supplied me with a lot of comic and bad behaviour to adapt into fictional characters. Like John Mortimer wrote about being a barrister, and Dick Francis wrote about horse racing, I write black comic fiction set within the music business and the many mental and sociopathic, and hilarious characters who inhabit it. So far I have written 3 books. 'Career Opportunities' is the story of 4 lovable idiots trying to form a band and get famous. Irvine Welsh meets Nick Hornby is often a style comparison leveled at this book. I am happy with that. The reviews always say it is laugh out loud funny and that is even better. 'General Pinochet, the Dog S*** Incident, and Mexican Fetish Bandits', is a collection of true comic short stories; one of which involved me getting into a poop flinging fight with a south American dictator, and one that involved some Mexicans who liked latex pants. My most recent book is also a true story entitled 'The Great Ones Are Always Cracked' and chronicles a year in which I acted as personal manager to a multi platinum selling pop star who was quite mad. (but also funny) I am currently working on a sequel to Career Opportunities, entitled Pseudonyms.
