Marilyn Messenger

Marilyn lives on the Cumbrian side of the Solway Firth. She is a graduate of Cumbria University's Creative Writing Course, and can't remember a time when she didn't feel the need to write. Her work has been published in magazines and anthologies, read at events such as the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival, and performed by Liar's League in New York. She has written radio drama, graphic novel scripts, poetry and non-fiction - the latter in various forms. An extract from her non-fiction work, 'Man of Stars', was published in the Unbound Press Anthology, 'Loose Leaves'. Marilyn particularly enjoys the short story form, both as a writer and as a reader. She is attracted to life’s quirkiness, to its unexpected connections and especially to its secrets, whether concealed or exposed. Performing her short stories is a new activity for her, but one which she enjoys and now feels is the reason for many of them being written. Her recent readings have been from the recently published, 'Ambiguous Encounters: ten short stories', which is a shared collection with fellow writer, Brindley Hallam Dennis. Her twitter handle is @marilynmessengr
