Melinda Ingram


Melinda gained her in M.A. in English – Creative Writing at Loughborough University. She has a B.A. in Education from the Open University and a Cert. Ed. from Brighton. Having taught people aged two to sixty in a variety of settings, Melinda retired from the University of Leicester. She teaches English part time at a nearby F.E. College and is also a trustee of her local Community Library. Melinda has edited and contributed chapters to books on Education for Sage and Learning Matters (under Min Wilkie) including Supporting Learning in Primary Schools and Doing Action Research. She has self-published Fictonalising Iraq in British and American Literature (Children’s and Y.A.). She is working on two novels for Y.A readers, one a time slip, and one with an induce the from the Iraq war at its heart. Melinda has an interest in life writing and in time travel fiction. Melinda is part of a writing group called Ruler's Wit, who are engaged in publishing collections of short stories with seasonal themes. Winter Tales and Spring Tales are available on Amazon, and Summer Tales will be available in late June. One of Melinda's stories, earmarked for Autumn Tales, has recently been shortlisted in a national competition.

2010 Where I live, in Great Glen, a small Leicestershire village in England

What do you love about Short Stories?

They capture a rich variety of ideas and emotions in one sitting.

Do you write in other forms?

I have two books aimed at young adults 'on the go.'

What distracts you from writing?

Not much, once I get going!

Outside of writing, what are your other passions?

Holidays, word puzzles and games, bowling, my family, my dogs- two border collies.

What is your favourite book?

Currently, the 'Wool' series by Hugh Howey. Also 'The Bullet Catcher's Daughter' by my friend Rod Duncan!

New Zealand...it's on my bucket list to visit!

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Cruelty to children and animals.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Read your work out loud to yourself! You see so many things that might need editing that you'd otherwise miss!
