Nick Lovering

My wife recently asked me what I do. A tricky question. At various points in any given week, a stockbroker, financial advisor to start-up companies, and Charity Trustee. I co-own a pub company and a coffee company. I spend hours walking my dog around Wimbledon common and (slightly) fewer hours watching cricket at Lords and hacking around the golf courses of Sussex. However, what I enjoy most is reading and writing books, and particularly hearing that other people have read and enjoyed what I have written. I started writing, like many others, by inventing stories and characters for my children, and they continue to inspire everything that I do.

Everything is there, but it is in sharper focus.

Novels, literary reviews and endless emails.

What distracts you from writing?

Too many things.

Cricket, football, walking.

The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

Who are your favourite writers?

Kate Atkinson, James Ellroy and Cressida Cowell.

Where is your dream location?

St Lucia.

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Films inspired by comics.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Always write for yourself, never what you think other people want you to write.
