Vera Brenner

Vera Brenner is an up and coming writer, holding an MA in Creative Writing from Kingston University London. Her work has appeared in ‘Big, Red & Shiny’, ‘The Missing Slate’, ‘Gone Fishing’ and ‘Words, Pauses, Noises.’ She has a collection of short stories and essays and is currently writing her first novel. She has lived in Germany, Spain and London and is a consultant for film and TV productions. About her writing Vera says: ‘I write about life. About trying to live it in a sustainable way, about survival amidst recession and about continuing after the death of your three year old daughter. I write about sunrise and sunset and the noises in my head. My characters are on the move: on a psychogeographical quest through London, commuting into Madrid, or journeying from Zagreb’s slaughterhouse to the Museum of Broken Relationships. Just as I myself embarked on a constant journey, one which has led me from Germany to Andalusia and London; from thinking in German to dreaming in Spanish to writing in English. Challenge yourself: move on to new territories. Start all over again. It’s not the final stop that matters: the gripping part is how we’re getting there. It’s the little details that matter, that distinguish one character’s journey from the others’. I write about why we don’t give up, although life is difficult and why we’re never contented, even though everything seems satisfactory.’
