What do you love about Short Stories?

A good short story is probably the most difficult to write; it requires a careful plan and succinct method for capturing charecters without scads of detail; the characters needs to erupt from the page well formed. The story need a fine start and a good, satisfying end. In my writing, I aim to keep inside 3000 words.

I write books in two genres - science history and quasi-political satires. I also write articles for professional journals.

What distracts you from writing?

Dog and domestic chores

Outside of writing, what are your other passions?

History, geodesy (Earth measuring), local politics

What is your favourite book?

John Romer's Testament. An elegantly written and well-balanced history of the Bible

Douglas Adams, Carl Sagen and George Orwell

Where is your dream location?

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Do you have any advice for new writers?

|Get the story straight, plan well but leave the charecters to develop naturally... and never give up
