Lara Bardsley


Lara is a Transpersonal, Clinical and Counselling Psychologist of 20 years. She has pursued her interest in narratives of transformation through training in Creative Arts, Jungian and Transpersonal psychology, Buddhism, meditation and mindfulness practices. She is a professional artist, practicing psychologist and a registered supervisor of clinicians. She has written and been published across a number of different feilds including creative writing, psychological journals and freelance journalism and has her own blog. Lara is currently completing her PhD in Humanities and Creative Arts at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, exploring the transformative and universal quality of story as told through film and auto/biography.

When did you start writing?

1972 Mornington, Victoria, Australia.

What do you love about short stories?

I love short stories because, they are often birthed with an intensity and immediacy that makes them unique.

Do you write in other forms?

I hope I currently have a novel in process...

What distracts you from writing?

Actually a few things distract me from my writing, although the process continues, irrespective of whether I am at my computer of not.

Outside of writing, what are your other passions?

meditation, painting, animals (particularly dogs) and nature.

What is your favourite book?

Love's Executioner - Irvin Yalom.

Who are your favourite writers?

Hermann Hesse, Hafiz and David Abram.

Where is your dream location?

Lorne, the Great Ocean Road, Victoria.

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Arrogance.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Read a lot.
