Csilla Toldy

Csilla Toldy was born in Budapest. She escaped from the socialist bloc through the green borders at the age of eighteen in 1981. She lived in France, Germany and England, still she settled in Northern Ireland in 1998. Her short stories and poems were published by UK and Irish literary magazines. Her scripts won awards in Hungary and the US. Csilla is a lecturer of creative writing with the Open University.

I like it when they linger in the mind for a long time after reading.

"Sinners" a short story by Edna O'Brien, published in Saints and Sinners by Faber in 2011

....Somewhat detached, he revisited the events of the last twenty-four hours: his release from the Maze at noon the previous day, the heavy prison gates closing behind him. The empty street, the soulless crystalline rain. His journey on the bus to Belfast, his sitting at the steamed up window, wondering where to go. He walked the pubs all night, getting cosy for a few drinks, then feeling the urge to change and move on.

Cassandra asked for admission to the literature club of the university and was warmly welcomed by everybody. We liked newcomers. We liked to believe that we were expanding and it meant joy to have a new companion who shared our sophisticated passion.
