Katherine Blessan was born in rural Norfolk and lives in multicultural Sheffield. She is the author of Lydia's Song: the story of a child lost and a woman found (Instant Apostle, 2014), which explores the horrors of child-sex trafficking in Cambodia from the perspective of a Vietnamese girl, Song, and her foster mother, Lydia, an English expat. From a young child, Katherine wanted to be a writer, but being poorly taught at school (no offense to any of her teachers but she was an 80s child!) her skills and experience were only fully honed as an adult. She has a BA in English and American Studies from Hull University (1998), an MA in English Literature from Sheffield University (2000) and a PGCE in Secondary English from the UEA (2007). Katherine has an international edge to her life, which inevitably colours her writing. Her husband is from South India and she has lived overseas in Australia and Cambodia, as well as having many friends from different nationalities within Sheffield. Having worked in publishing (STM), and secondary school teaching, Katherine has decided to focus on private tutoring and writing as a career. www.katherineblessan.com

Work by Katherine Blessan:
Beyond Her Scream
‘Beyond Her Scream’ is the story of a mother-daughter relationship strained by the effects of FGM. It is set against a background of cross-cultural differences and contrasting worldviews. It contains some graphic descriptions which may not be suitable for younger readers. “The sound of her scream stung my mind like a cat-o’ nine tails. Agony. I’d subjected her to such agony. No-one should ever have to endure that, let alone one’s own daughter.”
