Lisa Samson


Lisa Samson co-ordinates the Writing Development Service for the School of Cultural Studies and teaches the Creative Writing module to Literature students at Leeds Beckett University. She writes fiction and creative non-fiction and her work has appeared in anthologies and on-line journals. She is a contributor to the digital blog site www.caughtbytheriver.net. She is currently writing an Epitaph for the Ash, commissioned by Fourth Estate publishers, about the cultural significance of ash trees.

When did you start writing?

Harrogate, England.

What do you love about short stories?

They make you think but you can usually read them on a half hour train journey.

Do you write in other forms?

Yes, I've written two novels that haven't been published and I'm writing a book on Ash Dieback for Fourth Estate that will be published in Spring of 2016.

What distracts you from writing?

Work.

Outside of writing, what are your other passions?

Walking, cooking and my family.

What is your favourite book?

Sense and Sensibility.

Who are your favourite writers?

A.S. Byatt, Carol Shields and Bronte Sisters.

Where is your dream location?

Italy.

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Smugness.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Keep on writing.
