Yasmin Keyani

Yasmin Keyani studied for a degree in Film and English Studies at the University of East Anglia in Norwich and has worked as a librarian, a bookseller and in publishing at The Women’s Press and Penguin Books in London. She loves books!

She writes both fiction and non-fiction and has been published online and in print. She has won competitions for her short stories and flash fiction.

1980 in Colchester, England.

What do you love about short stories?

I love the need to be compact, precise and daring.

Anything and everything.

What distracts you from writing?

Family and day dreaming.

Photos, drawing, knitting and films.

What is your favourite book?

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith.

Who are your favourite writers?

Charles Dickens, Penelope Fitzgerald and P.G. Wodehouse.

Where is your dream location?

New York.

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Buses that are 'not in service' when you've been waiting in the rain for hours.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

There is no magic pill for writing well, you just have to keep writing and learning as you go.
