Sarah Salway


Sarah Salway is a poet, short story writer and novelist. She teaches creative writing at the London School of Economics and University of Kent, as well as running a regular group in her home. She wrote her latest book, Digging Up Paradise, when she was Canterbury Laureate. It is part poetry collection, part travelogue and part love letter to English gardens.

I love the power, the huge heart and the shock of feeling in them.

Novels, poetry and journalism.

What distracts you from writing?

Family, teaching, pottering but most of all Social Media

Outside of writing, what are your other passions?

Wild swimming, cooking and drinking - particularly home made, hill walking, playing with paper

What is your favourite book?

A Real Doll by A M Homes and In the Gloaming by Alice Elliot Dark

Who are your favourite writers?

Carol Shields, Kenneth White and Diane Ackerman

Where is your dream location?

Vancouver Island

What one item would you put into Room 101?

Aubergines
